Senior Software Developer

This role is based at PAA’s European headquarters in Farnborough, Hampshire, UK, with travel expected to customer sites nationally and internationally.

Reporting to the Software Manager, the Senior Software Developer will have relevant experience in computing, engineering or science.  The role includes working on development of core products, instrument drivers, and custom solutions on all aspects of the product lifecycle from design through development and testing.  Candidates should have experience in working directly with customers and on a helpdesk ticket system for support.    The role requires being able to work as part of a team, and on your own projects, supervising software developers and assisting in their personal development.

Key Experience and Skills

  • High level software development skills in .NET (VB.Net and C#) WinForms
  • For desktop applications: SQL, Visual Studio, Unit Testing, WPF
  • For onboard instrument applications: A wide range of skills including MEAN Stack, HTML, Ubuntu OS, test-driven development behaviour-driven development and be familiar with CI-CD
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail, document authoring
  • Full driving licence is desirable

Junior Software Developer

This job is based at PAA’s European headquarters in Farnborough, Hampshire, UK, with travel expected to customer sites nationally and internationally.

The role is working within the software development team reporting to the Software Manager. We are looking for a background in computing, engineering or science, combined with excellent communication skills and attention to detail as you will work directly with customers, as well as providing customer support on the Helpdesk and remote sessions.

Assembly Technician

This position is based at PAA’s European headquarters in Farnborough, Hampshire, UK.

Reporting to a Project Coordinator, the role entails performing electro-mechanical assembly of the company’s products under limited supervision, working from engineering drawings, along with assembly and test procedures to ensure correct build and function.

Responsibilities include:

  • assembly and testing of electro-mechanical assemblies
  • soldering and wire termination
  • investigation of customer returns and fault finding
  • order fulfilment
  • working to the company’s ISO 9001 Quality System ensuring all required paperwork is completed
  • stock control
  • following project plans and collaborating with the project team to ensure targets are met

We are looking for a highly motivated team player, who is passionate and results-driven, who has hands on experience of electro-mechanical assemblies and an understanding of PC based systems, basic PC network and use of software tools (SSH/Putty/FTP) in both Windows and Linux environments.  Apprentice trained, or 5 years hands-on experience in an appropriate filed required.

Application Specialists

We currently have two vacancies for Applications Specialists; one based in the UK at the European Headquarters based in Farnborough, Hampshire and the second based on the East Coast of the USA, with occasional travel to Europe.

Job Brief:

We are looking for senior applications specialists who have experience in the development of robotic workcells, preferably in the life science or consumer products industry.  The main purpose of the job is to provide support for PAA’s activities in both the USA and UK.  This will include project management, workflow programming (using our proprietary Overlord software), robot teaching, instrument integration and customer support.  Working alone, but as a member of the integration team, you will be an enthusiastic focused problem-solver who is self-motivated and with an eye for detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Project management. Be entirely responsible for delivering customer solutions based on instrument integrations
  • Overlord Implementation. Work with customers to understand requirements, document the required configurations and workflow.  Implement these requirements in existing or new robotic workcells
  • Robot Programming. Have a broad knowledge of the functionality of industrial articulated and SCARA robotic arms
  • Sales and Business support. Participate in sales visits to support the sales team at customer locations
  • Service and Support. Handle phone calls from customers and provide first level technical support to the customer
  • This position reports into the Integration Manager, Farnborough, UK, either based in East Coast, USA or in Farnborough, UK

Key Job Skills

  • A background in software, research informatics or other relevant area
  • Relevant experience in life science/bio-pharmaceutical industry
  • Ability to work well alone in unsupervised customer locations and as a member of a small team

Requirements

You will be degree-level educated in a numerate discipline, ideally with a background in Biochemistry/Chemistry
