We plan to write new posts every few weeks or so, with different members of PAA contributing. For example, this maybe a post about a new technology they are checking out, news from different industries on how they’re using automation or how they’ve fared integrating an instrument into Overlord. We hope from these, you’ll get an idea of how we work and perhaps take away something that is of interest.
Since this is the first post on our new website it seemed fitting that the topic of this should be about how we came to implement it. We decided about a year ago that we needed a complete overhaul of the current website. This was originally created nearly 15 years ago and the framework that was put in place then still remains. However, web technologies have moved on, Content Management Systems are powerful platforms and we felt it was the right time for us to make use of one of these. Although we have a number of developers who are experienced with web design and using Node and Angular for example, we quickly came to the conclusion that using a dedicated web design company would be the best way to get this done. We put together a user requirement specification and started speaking to a number of companies to see who could help us out.
To cut a long story short, we went with Lightflows. They are a digital agency based out of Guildford in the UK, which is not too far from our UK office. They have a great portfolio of work, including the SuperVet which maybe familiar to anyone who has seen this on Channel4 in the UK. Lightflows have been great, they helped map out our ideas into a series of mockups, so we could get a feel for how the final site could look. They then started building a solution that uses WordPress and the end result is the website you are currently on, which we are very pleased with. The video on the main page was also created by Lightflows which has turned out just how we envisaged it would. The team at Lightflows have been great, special mention for both Matt and Nik who have implemented everything we’ve asked for and have been quick to answer any questions we’ve had.
So, this is it, please take a look around the rest of the website. If you have any feedback, good or bad, please let us know. We intend to add more content, especially as we now have a system in place that makes it easy to do this. We have a lot of new products being developed in 2016 and a host of new projects to deliver that are making use of new technologies. We’ll share all of this when we are ready, so please come back again soon.
